Epilepsy & Seizure Management for Children and the NDIS
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Participants.

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions in childhood. Seizures can look different for every child, from brief staring spells to more obvious movements or loss of awareness. For families, the unpredictability of Seizure Management can feel overwhelming. With the right care plans, nursing support and NDIS-funded services, children with epilepsy can be supported safely in-home and in the community.
Our Role at AH Nursing & Health Services and how we support & Epilepsy and Seizure Management
At AH Nursing & Health Services, we specialise in complex paediatric care needs & 1:1 nursing as outlined in your childs Model of Care by Encompass. Supports for children with epilepsy can include both nursing services and capacity-building supports for families:

-
Administration of prescribed emergency medications (such as Midazolam or Buccal rescue medications).
-
Nursing support during transitions, for example, after hospital stays or when starting new treatments.
Additional Supports

-
Collaboration with your child’s specialists (neurologists, paediatricians, allied health) to ensure plans stay up-to-date.
-
Assistive technology or seizure monitoring equipment (if considered disability-related).
-
Capacity-building supports that give families and carers confidence in daily epilepsy management.
NDIS Criteria for Paediatric Seizure Management

The NDIS may fund supports when Epilepsy and Seizure Management is considered disability-related and impacts a child’s ability to live safely or independently. For children, this often includes:
Frequent or complex seizures requiring daily monitoring and emergency planning.
Training for families and carers, so everyone knows how to respond confidently to seizures.
Nursing oversight to ensure medications and responses are safe and effective.
Specialised equipment or technology to reduce risks and help children stay safely at home.
The NDIS looks at how supports help children participate in family life, school, and community, while keeping them safe and well.
We're here to help.
Caring for a child with Epilepsy and Seizure Management can be challenging, but you don’t have to manage it alone. With NDIS-funded nursing supports, families can feel confident their child is safe with paediatric nursing supports that put the child’s safety, wellbeing and ability to access at the centre of our focus.
